Discipleship Pathway

God Grows Disciples

“I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth.”
1 Corinthians 3:6-7

The call to follow Christ is the call to faithfully do four things: read your Bible daily, spend time in prayer consistently, share the gospel regularly, and participate in a small group weekly. As you do these things, God will grow you deeper as a follower of Christ.

As you scroll down, you will see resources that will help you in each of these four areas.

Bible Daily

“And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.”
1 Thess. 2.13

As Paul explains in 1 Thessalonians 2.13, God works in the lives of believers when you read the Bible. It is our hope that you will develop the habit of reading the Bible daily. It is this day after day reading the Bible that God will do a marvelous work in you to deepen your walk with Christ.

Here are recommended resources to develop the habit of reading the Bible daily.

Pray Consistently

“Pray without ceasing” 1 Thess. 5.17

The purpose of Pray 24/7 is to help you develop the habit to pray consistently as you pray 24 times in a week including 7 times with someone else.

Evangelism Regularly

“but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect” 1 Peter 3:15

Evangelism is telling others the good news about Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection.  Jesus gave us the responsibility to share the good news because Holy Spirit empowered every-day Christians are the best people to reach a lost world for Jesus.

Here are some resources and tools that will help you develop your personal faith story.

Participate Weekly

“And they devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

The Christian life is never meant to be done alone. I need you. You need me. We need each other.

To grow in Christ requires that we grow in community. The best place to find Christian community is in a small group at Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church. The majority of our small groups meet on Sunday mornings.
